EFCC Arrests 20 For Vote Buying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday paraded 20 persons arrested for alleged vote-buying in Kwara state.
The commission said that the suspects were arrested in Irepodun, Ilorin West and Ilorin South local government areas of the state during the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Parading the suspects, Acting Commander, Ilorin Zonal office of the commission, Michael Nzekwe, said the commission acted on credible intelligence to carry out the operation.

President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, voted at 9:35 am at Unit 085, Ward 03, Alausa, Ikeja, amid tight security in the Governorship and National Assembly elections.
Tinubu was accompanied by his wife, Sen. Oluremi and the Lagos Market leader, Chief Folashade Ojo.
Mr Dele Alake, Tinubu’s Media Spokesman, told newsmen after his principal voted that the president-elect would not be able to grant interviews till later in the evening.
But in a tweet via his Twitter handle after voting, Tinubu encouraged electorates to go out and cast their vote peacefully.
He tweeted, “I just joined other Nigerians in exercising my civic duty in the ongoing governorship and state assembly elections.
Assembly Poll: Diri Praises INEC, Says Voting Seamless.

The governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the House of Assembly election in the state on Saturday.
He noted that it was an improvement on the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, which drew so much condemnation.
Diri, who spoke after casting his vote alongside his wife, Gloria, at 9.07am at Ward 6 Unit 4 Kalama-Oweiwari in Sampou community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, described the process of Saturday’s election as peaceful, seamless and fast.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has denied reports of widespread violence and voter suppression in the governorship and House of Assembly elections held on Saturday, March 18.
The police chief disclosed this on Saturday, in an interview with Channels TV
He affirmed attacks on the electorate and electoral officers recorded at some polling units in the state but disputed the attacks were widespread. He noted that the police responded swiftly to most of the attacks as expected.
“It is true that we’ve recorded instances of violence in some areas within the state. The incidents were not as widespread as to affect the general dynamics of the process.
“Most of the instances were properly responded to by the police because we anticipated them,” he said.
