Ex-PDP lawmaker, others defect to APC in Ondo

Members and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State switched to the ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday, just two weeks after the presidential election.
The APC’s state leadership welcomed the defectors at the party secretariat on Oyemekun Road in Akure, the state capital, where it was learned that they were from the state’s 18 local government areas.
Adeyinka Banso, the leader of the defectors and a former member of the state House of Assembly, claimed that they left the PDP as a result of the leadership crisis because they believed the party had lost its direction and vision.
He said that the opposition party’s choice of a presidential candidate from the north of the nation was a breach of the PDP’s agreement, and he said as a result he lost interest in the party.
“We are here to announce our unconditional and complete support to APC,” he stated. The Jagaban of Ondo politics, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, is our party chairman. Our party leader is our governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
“Our decision to defect to the progressive party was motivated by our desire to give up visionlessness. I won’t have the chance to speak for my people and advocate for their best interests if I continue in the PDP. I’m able to breathe a sigh of relaxation after joining APC.
“I started thinking about shifting to the APC the moment my party chose a candidate from the northern extraction since it feels like a breach of an agreement to me, this is not fair.”
The state chairman of the APC, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, welcomed the former PDP leaders and expressed satisfaction with the situation. He claimed that the PDP defectors were solid PDP supporters.
Adetimehin declared, “Today, I am the happiest man. These are the political movers and shakers in Ondo. As politics is about the people at the local level, these gladiators are popular local politicians. These are men who frequently made life difficult for us during elections in their various units, wards, and seats. They will significantly improve the quality of our party.
We are confident that we will win the state assembly election in each of their wards, units, and constituencies as a result of their defection.
Adetimehin also predicted that the PDP’s surviving powerful chieftains would defect to the APC before the year’s end.
“We are pleased to welcome the new PDP decampees. We have started the process with the arrival of these brothers. We intend to welcome all PDP leaders into our party before the year is through. There won’t ever be another PDP. Ondo state will officially join the APC.
“I hereby welcome you to our party, the APC, on behalf of our leader, Akeredolu. To join our party, let’s return to our units. They should all receive membership cards from the heads of their wards and units. Come to the secretariat to obtain new membership cards if you ever run out, they said. According to punch report.
