La Liga Table & Match Review After Yesterday's Games As Barcelona Dropped Points In The Title Race

The Spanish La Liga returned to action yesterday, with teams playing their match-day twenty-three fixtures. Let’s go over how all of yesterday’s games played out.
* Ath Bilbao 2-3 Girona
Girona got off to a flying start, taking an early lead just four minutes in when Garcia curled a superb strike past Unai Simon. The visitors’ sharp attacking play in the final third continued to impress, and they deservedly doubled their lead in the 19th minute, when Oscar de Marcos diverted a header from Castellanos into his own net. Athletic Bilbao pulled one back through Berchiche, but another own goal from Vesga kept Girona’s lead at two goals at halftime. Bilbao came out desperate for a foothold in the game after the restart, and as the clock approached the final minutes, the hosts gave themselves hope of a late comeback when Garcia capitalised on Girona’s poor defending to confidently slot home. This, however, proved to be too little, too late, as Girona held firm in the final minutes to secure a well-deserved three points yesterday.
* Celta Vigo 3-0 Rea Valladolid
Celta Vigo eased their relegation fears by defeating Real Valladolid 3-0 at Estadio de Balaidos. The hosts started strongly and led by two goals at halftime, thanks to Saferovic and Velga. As the second half begins, they maintain their strong start, and we are able to extend their lead through Velga in the 64th minute. Valladolid were ineffective throughout the game, and their woes were exacerbated by Amallah’s late red card. Celta Vigo won the game 3-0 and took home three well-deserved points.
* Almeria 1-0 Barcelona
Barcelona blew a chance to go 10 points clear at the top of the La Liga table yesterday when they were defeated 1-0 at the Power Horse Stadium. The hosts made a strong start, but Toure’s 24th-minute strike put them behind at halftime. The Blaugrana entered the second half hoping to mount a comeback. They had almost all of the possession and chances in the second half, but didn’t put goalkeeper Martinez to the test. Almeria’s defense repelled everything thrown at them in the final minutes of the game, allowing them to hold on to a 1-0 victory.
* Sevilla 2-3 Osasuna
The last matchday 23 fixture between Sevilla and Osasuna proved to be a thrilling encounter. Garcia rose highest to head home Kike Barja’s inswinging corner in the 18th minute, giving the visitors the lead. They would have gone into halftime with a two-goal lead, but VAR ruled out Barja’s close-range strike due to offside in the build-up. Sevilla came back strongly in the second half, leveling the score in the 63rd minute on a long-range strike by Gudelj that went past Fernandez. Osasuna did not give up and regained the lead five minutes later when Bounou’s strike hit Fernando in the back and went into the net.
En-Nesyri scored to bring Sevilla back into the game, firing into the bottom corner. However, Osasuna had the last laugh when second-half substitute Abde Ezzalzouli scored to give his team a point.
