Transfer News: Manchester United will consider signing Marcel Sabitzer after loan spell ends

Manchester United could reportedly sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently following his loan spell at the club. The Bayern Munich midfielder made his first start midweek against Leeds United and looked impressive despite the team’s overall lacklustre performance. United swooped for Sabitzer, 28, on January deadline day after playmaker Christian Eriksen was ruled out for at least three months.
Bayern Munich were willing to allow Sabitzer to leave temporarily but there is no option or obligation for the Premier League side to buy. However, after a decent start to his loan spell, Sabitzer could still be a long-term option for the club. It has been claimed United have mentioned that ‘incentive’ to the midfielder as he considers his future. According to ESPN, the Austrian could stay beyond the 2022/2023 campaign if he makes a favourable impression throughout the second half of the season.
United also signed Wout Weghorst on loan last month from Burnley. Erik ten Hag hopes that the promise of a permanent move acts as an incentive for the players. Sabitzer’s current contract at Bayern expires in the summer of 2025. However, he is expected to leave the Bavarians in the coming months. The Bundesliga giants are set to bring Konrad Laimer to the club on a free transfer. The 28-year-old has seen his game time dwindle in Julian Nagelsmann’s team. He has failed to establish himself in the German outfit’s starting lineup over the years.
