‘Most Amapiano Sound We’re Really Enjoying Come Out From Nigeria’ —Ghanaian Musician Stonebwoy

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian music sensation Stonebwoy has credited Nigerian musicians for creating enjoyable Amapiano songs.
Amapiano is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa, however, being upgraded by Nigerian musicians, according to Stonebwoy. The 34-year-old made this remark while discussing the origin of Afrobeats.
Stonebwoy noted that the Afrobeats documentary by Nigerian music business executive, Ayo Sonaiya, couldn’t have been wrong about Afrobeats originating from Ghana because he believed he conducted his research properly before going public with the facts.
The Sony Music musician held, in an interview with TheCable Lifestyle, that inasmuch as Ghana should be credited for creating Afrobeats, Nigeria should be acknowledged for popularising the genre of music.
Stonebwoy said, “If it was a Ghanaian saying it, then I’d think it can be up for a debate a little bit but I think Ayo would not do research over the years of his contribution in the industry to share with Africans and fellows all over the world any form of lies.
“This doesn’t create any form of competition. It’s all about education and level of understanding that primarily we share a lot of historical records, we are the same people.
“If its stems from Ghana, I think credit should be given to those brothers where it stems from. If it rolls to the highest of heights by Nigerians, we also have to acknowledge the fact that it’s our other sister who has done this. That’s the kind of mentality we need to have.
“I’m proud to be a Ghanaian and to date, it is very obvious that there are several other people across the continent who create different stuff that Nigeria as a brother sells better. Like the new Amapiano – most Amapiano sound that we’re really enjoying come out from Nigeria. And the Afrobeats has opened so much so that it contains anything and any kind of inspiration of today.
“Basically, there is a lot of education to be done, so we all understand that it’s instead an umbrella representation of Africans than a particular region. There are different spices from different places that come to form today’s Afrobeats that we are proud of.”
