Van Dijk Signs New Deal With Liverpool , Increases His Salary
Virgil van Dijk, Dutch defender, has reportedly agreed to pen a new contract at Premier League leaders.
According to The Mirror, the England international’s £80m switch to Man United in the summer, saw the Dutch centre-back handed a significant wage increase. At the moment, Van Dijk, who pockets about £125,000 weekly, will now smile to the bank with about £200,000-a-week, according to the report.
Interestingly, The Mirror noted discussion between Liverpool and Van Dijk’s representatives were ongoing before Maguire sealed Man United’s switch, giving the Dutchman a soft-landing he required.
The 28-year-old, who completed a massive £75m transfer from Southampton to Liverpool back in January 2018, saw off the pair of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to cart home the European footballer of the year award last August.
At the last count, the Dutchman also emerged PFA player of the year, helping the Kop side to 22 clean sheets in the English topflight, the most in all majors league in Europe.
