Last week, the highly controversial Roundtable its hottest Naija tracks chart, Davido’s ‘IF’ song emerged number one on the chart, ’s ‘Penalty’ single claimed the number two spot, and Runtown’s groundbreaking single ‘Mad Over You’ got the number three spot.

The top three tracks are undeniable part of the hottest tracks in Nigeria for the year 2017, but not as rated by MTV Base on its debated list. Going by numbers, MTV Base’s top 20 Hottest Naija Tracks of 2017 list’s arrangement will be rubbished, there are other songs released no earlier than November 2016, and has more media impacts, buzz and longevity on the list and didn’t get the ratings they deserve.

According to numbers that can also be considered as facts, Runtown’s hit single ‘Mad Over You’ deserves to be declared the hottest song in Nigeria this year. The song rated number three got over 57 million views on YouTube, 7 million streams on , while Davido’s ‘If’, which MTV Based named number one has been viewed 54 million times on YouTube and 6 million streams on . Sadly, ‘Penalty’ by Small Doctor did 1 million views on YouTube and 300k streams on spotify, yet it was rated number two, but how?

Recall, female singer Tiwa Savage took to her Instagram to drop a couple of subliminals saying, “numbers don’t lie, they never give credit, its not a disease to be female in the Naija music industry. 2018 will be for the fans only”, in her reaction to ‘the list’ by MTV Base.
